Confederation Quilt

A crazy patch made in 1867 has been rejuvenated and will be on display in Nova Scotia. This quilt   showcases many beautiful colours and hand stitching. It will be unveiled in 2017 as part of the 150th Anniversary. This example exemplifies the history of quilting in Canada.

Block Challenge

This year the red and white tulip was chosen in honour of Canada's 150th anniversary. The printed background fabric contains Canadian words including Canada 150. Our sample red and white tulips look elegant on the printed background. Kits and instructions are available at Quilter's nine Patch,Elmira and Quilt Essentials in St. Jacobs. Please pick up a kit on Tuesday.Both stores are closed on Monday.

Busy Day

Tuesday, December 7th , Pix Martin organized 'a placemat bee' to make 100 placemats for Innisfree Care Facility in Kitchener. The placemats are used on their food trays. Pix's Studio was buzzing with activity as sewers came to help sew, cut, turn and iron. By 8:30 in the evening, 150 placemats had been created. I am sure the residents will enjoy, the little 'perk,' on their trays.

Christmas is coming!

Santa Claus came to town last night. The Christmas music, the twinkling lights and the joyful atmosphere kick started the season for me. Even minions provided entertainment on the floats.
In the sewing room, it is time to work on Christmas projects...check out some new patterns, patterns and gimmicks. Enjoy!

Hallowe'en

Time to bring out the pumpkins. Quilting projects with pumpkins always bring a smile and add a pop of colour to the home decor. The ladies at my church sell decorated pumpkins....Enjoy!

Tiverton Fair

Yesterday my friend and i presented a quilt trunk show at Tiverton Fair which included a variety of quilting techniques. the crowd seemed impressed with the fall quilts.
Another lady demonstrated Hallowe'en treats. Enjoy her display table.

IPM Harriston

What a beautiful display of quilts could be found in the quilt tent at the 2016 IPM. Renske Helmuth and her committee did an excellent job.The huge tent provided room to display the wide variety of quilts.A little visitor is standing in front of her favourite quilt. She loved the colours and the design.

X Quilt 16 Course

Jen Houlden taught an improve course at X Quilt 16. What a delightful instructor- great examples, provided notes, demonstrated techniques on her own machine, worked with individuals and exhibited creative talents. The personal tour of her quilt exhibition was awesome.I was pleased with my project..photo to come much later.

First Meeting

The St. Jacobs Quilt Board met at the home of Salome Bauman for our annual pot-luck initiation meeting. Due to the heat we were able to enjoy Salome's beautiful yard, listen to the crickets and tree toads and have fun. Ideas are beginning to surface for 2017 quilt show...sounds exciting.

Yarn Bombed

Listowel was yarn bombed. That means the town was decked with many knitted articles, Spinrite held its annual tent sale and children participated in the scavenger hunt. My gals were disappointed that the knitting class at the library was cancelled. Imaginations soared.....S

IPM Quilt Show Harriston, 2016

The IPM Quilt Show was held at the Curling Club in Harriston, August 19 and 20th.The space in the venue was utilized to perfection, providing the viewer with awesome opportunities to admire the quilts. Some of the categories included: wall quilts, group quilts, pieced/handquilted, landscape, baby/child and a youth. Enjoy two examples-

IPM 2016

The international Ploughing Match, Quilt Show will be held at Harriston Curling Club Friday August 19th and Saturday August 20th commencing at 10:00 am. Renske Helmuth, chairperson has worked diligently to ensure there will be a great variety of quilts. Lynda Alexander taught a sewing class for preteen gals. Mark your calendar...this will be a great show.

Pix's Garden Party

Pix Martin hosted a 'high tea,' for several quilters in her beautiful backyard in St. Jacobs. Amazing quilts were displayed enhancing the flowers and furniture.Chef Pix used the atmosphere to entice guests to her delicious spread. As a quilter, I am beginning to get inspired..the quilting season is just around the corner.

2016 Quilt Shows

The construction in the village of St. Jacobs did not stop the quilt shows!The St. Jacobs Quilt Board was delighted with the response. Plans have started for the 2017 Show after all the members recuperate!!Sophie's grandma is admiring her crayon drawing on the quilt made by the children at St.Jacob's Mennonite Daycare.Kathy White, a fibre Artist from Stratford is working on a yarn painting.A nine and ten year old from Switzerland are signing the guest register.

Volunteer Tea

Monday evening, May 25 many volunteers enjoyed a delicious cup of tea and treats.Audrey Vrooman wowed the audience with her humorous presentation and talk about modern quilting. Everyone loved the "Pieces of St. Jacobs Quilt.' The show is on until Saturday at The Schoolhouse Theatre and at The St. Jacobs Mennonite Church until 4:00 Friday! Please come.

Volunteer Tea

The annual St. Jacobs Quilt and Fibre Art Shows starts tonight with a Volunteer Tea. Yesterday, a group of happy volunteers helped to set up the quilts. Again this morning a group of volunteers are completing the set-up process at the  St. Jacobs Mennonite Church. 'The Sea of Quilts,' is breath- taking. Lynn was working her magic at the Schoolhouse the wee hours of this morning. Don't miss!

Sneakers

The annual Quilt and Fibre Art Festival starts two weeks today!Dig out your sneakers and a fancy bag. St. Jacobs is getting new sewer and water upgrades. The good news..the sidewalks are in perfect condition, the parking lots are good to go and tourists are welcome. Sneakers will just provide a little more comfort.

Countdown


Just 18 days to go...pretty exciting.
Today I sold 6 tickets for the Trunk show being held at St. James Lutheran church May 26th at 2:30 and 7:30.
Salome has a waiting list for the bus trip..and has booked a larger luxury coach.
Tomorrow is our final meeting before the show.Mark your calendar..it is going to be a great week.
As a bonus you can be a tourist downtown St. Jacobs and provide some advise for the sewer and water guys!!!

Huron Perth/Stonetown Quilt Show 2016

The Huron Perth/Stonetown Quilt Show starts today at the Pyramid Recreation Centre in St. Marys.

here are over 100 large quilts waiting  to be viewed, as well as smaller quilts wallhangings and special events. The food booth is always a crowd pleaser. Quilters and friends are welcome.

Fannie's Trunk Show

This afternoon I attended a delightful Trunk Show and Tea sponsored by Nine Patches Quilt Store in Elmira.All the quilts were made by Fannie Roulett in early 1900's. This artist woman found interesting fabrics and patterns. The re-makes were amazing using vintage fabrics sold today. A highlight of the show was the stories.

Rug Hooking

Block Challenge Quilt

The 2016 Block Challenge Quilt a' Square in a Square,' was completed by Salome Bauman.Each block is different in design, colour and beauty. Note the use of the lime green. The black and white design in the border complimented the modern trend. This quilt will be machine quilted by Quilter's Nine Patch in Elmira.'It will be displayed at the Schoolhouse Theatre and
 Saturday May 28th will be auctioned at the 50th anniversary of the New Hamburg Relief Sale.

Quilt Show in St. Marys

The  Piecemakers Quilt Guild plan to showcase their quilts at the Pyramid Centre in St. Marys, April 21-22-23. Volunteers are working very hard to organize this semi-annual show. This is a great opportunity to view the latest trends in quilting- fabric, patterns and machine quilting.

2016 Quilt Block Challenge

Twenty five blocks were received for the 2016 Quilt Block Challenge. Quilters found many different ways to interpret a,' Square in a Square. 'One block came from Manitoba. This quilt will hang  at the Schoolhouse Theatre during the show and will be auctioned at the Relief Sale, Saturday May 28th.

2016 IPM

The 2016 International Plowing Match will be held near Harriston,Wellington County September 20-24.The Quilt Committee has been very busy making the Quilt Block Challenge Quilts,'Thirty Shades of Green,' and preparing a list of entries for the quilt competition. 2016 Block Challenge

The 2016 block challenge blocks are due. The theme 'a Square in a Square' provided an opportunity for quilters to stay with a traditional look or go modern. Using a plain coloured cotton fabric, variety should prevail. This quilt will be assembled and machine quilted. It will be displayed at the St. Jacobs
Quilt Festival the last week of May. On Saturday, May 28th it will be auctioned at the New Hamburg Relief Sale.

Winter- CQA

The winter edition of CQA contains an interesting article entitled,'Modern Debut St. Jacobs Quilt Festival.It provides an overview of the 2015 quilt show highlighting modern quilts at the different venues.There is also an article called, 'Modern Kickoff!'
